Thoughts from the Lectionary for the Sunday after Ascension
From the Epistle lesson: 1 St. Peter 4:7-11
Vs. 11 "If any man speak, let him speak as the oracles of God; if any man minister, let him do it as of the ability which God giveth: that God in all things may be glorified through Jesus Christ, to whom be praise and dominion for ever and ever. Amen."
The apostle here in this chapter has spoken of Christ’s suffering for His people, how His people suffer for His sake, and how they are in union with Christ in His suffering. He mentions that there is an urgency and seriousness to the Christian life as we await the “end of all things”. That as we await the final consummation of all things in Christ we should always be mindful as we pray, exhorting us to always maintain a fervent love for each other and being patient with each other in our faults. Peter reminds us to minister to each other with the gifts that God has given us and he reminds us that we are to use all of the gifts “that God in all things may be glorified”. Ultimately, it’s all about Christ and His glory.
So let us, in everything we do, use our God given gifts for the lifting up of the Church and for the Glory of God.
